Notes This fantastic and unusual specimen was collected by Dr, Kent Sundell, a famous and well known Paleontologist. He stated that this one is the largest specimen of this genus he had ever seen, and the best preserved! This specimen was on display for a number of years in the Tate museum, in Casper, Wyoming. This skeleton is unique, in that the preservation is exquisite with even the tiny tail bones preserved. She died, from unknown causes, laying on her baby!

Provenance Collected by Fim Pentagraff in central Florida

Notes This fossil tapir was collected by Jim Pentagraff, in central Florida. He personally collected a family grouping of specimens. They were found near Tallahassee, in a river east of Thios community. There was a sink hole where the specimens were recovered. For an entire family grouping to perish, they must have been caught in a flood. Approximately 10 animals were taken from this old deposit. Tapirs are extinct in North America and they were foragers, adapted to forested areas, with a thick body, short strong legs for barreling through the underbrush. Tapirs are aggressive animals and have been known to attack humans.

Notes This beautiful Gillicus is mounted in the old style "Sternberg" panel mount. The Gillicus was preyed upon by sharks devouring many of the ribs right up to the vertebrae. This specimen has been mounted in a textured panel that is done totally by hand which gives this fossil a quality like no other. This fish has been in a private collection since 2007 and we are pleased to have it available for sale.
